A man suspected of sexually abusing a 4-year-old child has been lynched by an angry mob of his fellow villagers in north-western Mexico, prosecutors have said.

The villagers broke into the man’s house after the child told his family that the 48-year-old had taken him to his house by force, the report said.

Accused gay molester killed

1-16-2011 Jamaica:

A man who police say was accused of raping little boys in Tivoli Gardens in Kingston was among at least three persons shot dead Friday night.

An investigator from the Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) said the man, who was identified as 42-year-old Winston Pennington, was found with a single gunshot wound to the head on Bustamante Highway at about 11:40 pm.

The police said Pennington was shot at point-blank range, and that a spent shell and a 9mm round were taken from beside his body.

"He was also called 'Black John', and so far our investigations suggest that he may have been killed because he reportedly molested youths in the community," the investigator, who declined to be named, told the Sunday Observer.

The murder -- the first recorded in the area by the police since the extradition of former Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke last year -- kept the police busy combing for leads. Up until press time they said they had still not identified any suspects.

In the meantime, police theorise that William Robinson, who was found with gunshot wounds at the rear of his business place on Chisholm Avenue in Kingston, may have been a victim of extortion.

According the police, at least one gunman pounced on Robinson at about 11:00 pm, demanding money from him, before firing on him through the window above the counter.

Robinson was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.

In the third incident, homicide investigators were, up to late yesterday afternoon, processing a crime scene at a house on Norman Crescent in East Kingston, from which a man was chased and shot dead on Elletson Road.

Police say 33-year-old Wajin Warren, whose body was found sprawled on the roadway, was chased by a gunman from the premises where he had gone to visit his girlfriend.

"The gunman ran him down from Norman Crescent, on to Norman Road, and onto Elletson Road in the vicinity of Telephone Street where he shot him," the MIT investigator said. ..Source.. by COREY ROBINSON

Sex offender possibly murdered

12-6-2011 Canada:

Police believe a sexual offender who died last week while serving time in Mission Institution was murdered.

Officers with Correction Service Canada (CSC) discovered an unresponsive male inside his cell at the medium security prison around 10: 45 p.m. on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the scene, however the victim could not be revived and was pronounced dead.

As a result, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to the scene, and an autopsy was scheduled for early this week.

"Investigators continue to look into this suspicious death," Sgt. Jennifer Pound of IHIT said in a press release.

"It appears to be a homicide and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team . . . has been called in and has since taken conduct of the investigation."

CSC identified the victim as 39-year-old Troy Squires, although the IHIT would not confirm that because the victim's next of kin had yet to be notified.

Squires had been serving an indeterminate sentence for forcible confinement, sexual assault, uttering threats to cause death/harm, assault with a weapon and overcome resistance. He began serving that sentence in January of 2006. The CSC will also review the incident, said Brandon Banks, assistant warden of management services for CSC, in a press release.

Girl Accused Of Killing Her Alleged Molester

Prosecution says girl, 14, stabbed man she accused of assaulting her after she heard he would not face charges...

Robert Daley, 45, was stabbed in the heart when the girl and a male friend, also 14, called at his home in Stockwell, south London, on 23 April, the Old Bailey was told.

Jonathan Rees QC, prosecuting, told the jury that the girl, her 16-year-old sister and a woman had made claims of sexual assault against Daley. Despite the claims, all three continued to have contact with him.

Rees said Daley was telephoned on the morning he died by a police officer who told him the Crown Prosecution Service had decided to drop the case. Daley then telephoned the older girl, who then contacted the 14-year-olds.

Five minutes after the boy and girl arrived at the flat Daley had been stabbed and lay bleeding on the floor. Two of the stab wounds had penetrated his heart.

Rees said the boy was understood to be claiming that he used the knife while trying to defend himself and the girl.

The girl denied taking part in the stabbing, but claimed that during the visit Daley sexually assaulted her in the kitchen and the boy stabbed him to help her get away.

Rees said: "There is evidence that she later told people close to her that it was she who stabbed him. It is the prosecution case that both defendants were responsible."

The defendants, now 15, deny murdering Daley. The trial continues. ..Source..

Teen girl fatally stabs sister's alleged molester

A 14-year-old British girl stabbed a man to death after finding out he would not be prosecuted for allegedly sexually assaulting her older sister, a court has heard.

Robert Daley, 45, was killed at his home in London in April on the same day he was told by police that the case against him had been dropped, according to the BBC.

The court heard that he called the 16-year-old girl after finding out he would not be charged.

She replied with a text message saying: "Stop calling and texting me. I really don't want anything to do with you. You are a perverted man and I can never forgive you.”

She then called her younger sister and her sister's boyfriend, who went round to Mr Daley's house.

They claim the 14-year-old boy stabbed Mr Daley five times, including twice in the heart, after Mr Daley sexually assaulted the girl in his kitchen.

But the girl later bragged to her friends that she was the one who stabbed the victim, the prosecution said.

Mr Daley was arrested earlier this year after the older sister told police he had sexually assaulted her.

The younger sister also claimed Mr Daley had pestered her for sex since she was 11-years-old, but never made an official statement.

The charges against Mr Daley, an alcoholic and drug user who lived with his partner of eight years, were dropped.

Both girls continued to contact Mr Daley after he was arrested, with the younger sister allegedly asking him for money.

The court was told their father is in jail in the UK, and their mother is in jail in the Caribbean island of Grenada for drug trafficking.

A 14-year-old British girl is being held over the death of a man she accused of attacking her.

Robert Daley, 45, was stabbed to death in the doorway of his Brixton flat on Friday in what local media is describing as a "vigilante" attack.

Just 10 days earlier, the Crown Prosecution Service had refused to press charges against the unemployed builder despite the 14-year-old's allegations.

The girl is now being held in relation to the murder, with an 18-year-old man also arrested, the Daily Mail reports.

Mr Daley was found conscious by neighbours lying in a pool of blood after being repeatedly stabbed in the chest.

He was only able to give his first name to paramedics before dying from his injuries.

The CPS declared it had insufficient evidence to prosecute the unemployed builder on April 13 following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police child protection team.

Mr Daley was also alleged to have assaulted the girl's 18-year-old half-sister.

Scotland Yard confirmed a teenage girl had been arrested while the 18-year-old man had been bailed to return in May.

Boy 'stabbed suspected paedophile after he grabbed girl'

A teenage boy told the Old Bailey today that he stabbed a suspected paedophile to death after the man grabbed a schoolgirl round the neck.

The boy and girl, who were both 14 at the time, had gone to Robert Daley's flat in Brixton, south London, after prosecutors dropped a sex abuse case against him.

Within minutes he had been stabbed five times in the side in his kitchen.

The teenagers, now both 15 and who cannot be identified because of their age, deny murdering Mr Daley, 45, in April.

The youth told the court the girl went into the kitchen with Mr Daley and a few minutes later, he heard "choking and grappling sounds".

The youth said: "I saw him pinning her to the worktop. He had his left hand on her throat and his right hand was trying to touch her.

"She was trying to get his hand off her throat and also trying to keep him from touching her."

He said a struggle broke out as he tried to pull the girl away and was hit in the face.

He allegedly saw Mr Daley reaching for a knife - and grabbed one himself for protection.

"I knew he went to get a knife. I looked round for what I could use as a weapon. I got scared because of all the stories he had told me.

"In the kitchen sink I found a black-handled knife. I assumed he was going to get one and stab us.

"I told him to stop screaming at me. He was not paying any attention.

"His hand was close to the knife - that's when I poked him."

The youth said he continued to "poke" Mr Daley until he managed to free the girl.

A teenager accused of murdering a father-of-four told family members he had stabbed him, a court has heard.

Raymond Black, 48, was found lying in a pool of blood in his Carluke home in January, while his two-year-old daughter slept in another room.

At the High Court in Aberdeen the uncle of accused Peter Allen, 19, said he had told him he had cut Mr Black's throat.

Mr Allen pled not guilty to a charge of murder, defeating the ends of justice and destroying evidence.

Uncle's evidence

The court heard how the teenager had arrived at his uncle's house at Unitas Crescent in Carluke on 12 January, next door to Mr Black's house, with blood-soaked trainers on the night of the alleged attack.

Giving evidence against his nephew, Barry Allen said he had asked what had happened.

The uncle told the court: "He stared right through me, talking mumbo jumbo. He said he'd murdered Raymond Black.

"I was a wee bit frightened of him. He had a different expression on his face. The lights were on but he wasn't there.

"He did say he cut his throat and said 'he's a beast anyway or something like that'."

Asked why he or his partner did not contact the police, he answered: "He was that out of his face and I didn't want to believe it."

Defending, Donald Findlay QC questioned the relationship between Mr Black and the accused.

The court heard that Peter Allen would go round to Mr Black's house to drink alcohol and smoke cannabis.

Charges denied

Mr Findlay asked Barry Allen: "What is the attraction for a 48-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy to be friends? It isn't usual?

"The accused then said something along the lines of 'he was a beast anyway', what did you take from that?"

Barry Allen replied: "Interfering with children."

Mr Findlay added: "The name of a child molester?"

Mr Allen said: "Yes."

Peter Allen is alleged to have repeatedly punched and kicked Mr Black on the head and body before striking him with a knife or knives and a lamp standard.

He is also charged with trying to defeat the ends of justice by concealing a bloodstained jacket in a refuse bin and destroying evidence.

Murder accused suspected ex of abusing daughter

The woman accused of the body-on-the-bonnet murder decided to kill her ex-partner because she suspected him of molesting their little daughter, a Crown lawyer told the High Court in New Plymouth yesterday.

Cindy Fairburn, 38, is alleged to have deliberately driven into the path of an oncoming car as Darin Paul Maxwell, 42, clung on to the bonnet.

The story of the 13km wild, crazy ride on State Highway 3 on August 6, 2007 unfolded in the High Court in New Plymouth yesterday.

The impact with the Isuzu was so severe, Mr Maxwell was flung from the bonnet and through the windscreen of the Isuzu.

His extensive injuries included bleeding lungs, a foot almost amputated, fractured legs and a deep cut on his shoulder.

Mr Maxwell died in the ambulance on the way to Taranaki Base Hospital.

The Isuzu's driver also suffered life-threatening injuries but survived after weeks in hospital.

Fairburn herself was knocked unconscious and critically injured, spending 15 weeks in hospital.

An infection resulted in a return to hospital where a leg was amputated.

Fairburn, who quietly wept as the jury trial started yesterday, has denied murdering her former partner and dangerous driving injuring the Isuzu driver, whose name is suppressed.

Fairburn's lawyers argue that her actions on the night were solely those of a woman defending herself from Mr Maxwell.

In opening, Crown prosecutor Cherie Clarke said Fairburn had been angry and upset since the Saturday before the fatal impact.

In response to her child's unusual cry after she was put to bed, Fairburn had gone in to her baby's room to find her tucked up in her cot, but without nappies and her nappy and pants neatly folded at the end of the cot.

In her mind, he had sexually abused their two-year-old daughter, Miss Clarke said.

The accused told others she wanted to either poison him or use a stun gun.

She reported the incident to police, taking them a cot sheet, hairs she said were pubic hairs she had found on the floor next to the cot and the underblanket so they could use them as evidence.

When told by police that Mr Maxwell would not be arrested immediately, she was angered, saying he should not be allowed to get away with it.

The accused had told a friend that if police were not going to do anything, she would.

On the Monday, the baby was examined by a paediatrician who found no evidence of a sexual assault and ESR tests weeks later found no evidence of semen on the baby's bedding, Miss Clarke said.

That night, she encountered Mr Maxwell at the Heritage Bar in Inglewood.

She had left the bar and he had somehow ended up on the bonnet of her car, Miss Clarke said.

Other drivers on the road that night described how Mr Maxwell was slipping and sliding across the bonnet as she veered across the white line on the main road in Inglewood, cars on the opposite side having to steer hard left to avoid her.

She then drove at speeds up to 120kmh on the open road with Mr Maxwell still clinging to the bonnet, Ms Clarke said.

At 9.53pm, nearly at the Mangorei Rd intersection, she suddenly and violently swerved her car directly into the path of the Isuzu which was travelling towards Inglewood, Miss Clarke said.

At the time, the accused's car was estimated to be travelling between 83 and 133kmh.

Weeks later, Fairburn told police that she had got a fright when he jumped on the bonnet outside the hotel yelling and screaming.

She had not wanted to stop the car in case he jumped into the car.

She said she had no memory of the collision.

The couple's history included a charge of Mr Maxwell threatening to kill her and the toddler in 2006.

But she withdrew her allegations saying she was concerned about his suicidal tendencies and she was charged with making a false statement.

Mr Maxwell had been convicted of assaults against two other women in 2002.

Defence lawyer Pamela Jensen said self-defence would be argued.

The accused did not murder Mr Maxwell nor did she intend to injure the Isuzu driver.

UK- Suspected sex offender fell to his death 'as he fled baying vigilante gang'

A suspected sex offender fell 50 feet to his death from an apartment block as he fled a baying vigilante gang, a court heard today.

Terrified Scott Campbell, 44, made a run for it when three men and two women turned up at his second floor flat to give him a revenge beating over claims he had sexually assaulted a 13 year-old-boy, it was alleged.

As one of the armed gang started banging on his front door shouting: 'I'm going to f***ing kill you' Campbell climbed over his balcony in a bid to escape.

But as he did so he lost his grip on the rail and plumetted to the ground. The Glaswegian suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead in Royal Bolton hospital in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Manchester Crown Court was told during the incident CCTV captured one of the women hiding a baseball bat up the back of her coat, whilst her husband was carrying a hammer.

Another woman was carrying a spanner or wrench and a fourth man was carrying a bike chain. The four tried to hide their faces to avoid being recognised.

Jamie Watson, 32, his wife Sarah Watson, 32, Katia Briercliffe, 36, Paul McCarthy, 36 and Martin McMulkin, 37 all deny manslaughter.

The tragedy occurred at 7.20pm in July last year after the 13 year-old-boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been Campbell's second floor flat in Blackshaw Lane, Deane, Bolton.

He came out 20 minutes later and told two friends he had been indecently assaulted.
The allegations spread around the Deane area of Bolton, Greater Manchester and locals were seen gathering around the block of flats.

Sarah and Jamie Watson were seen entering the flats with Katia Briercliffe, and the 13 year-old-boy and being joined in the lift by McMulkin and McCarthy - who also lived at the flats.

The boy was seen on the building's CCTV footage pointing out the flat he had been in, before leaving Fernstead House.

CCTV showed Sarah Watson hiding a baseball bat up the back of her coat, Jamie Watson carrying a hammer, Katia Briercliffe carrying a spanner or wrench and Martin McMulkin carrying a bike chain.

Prosecuting Mr Peter Cadwallader said the jury may have some sympathy for the defendants given the allegations made towards the victim.

But he said: 'However justified there position it cannot be acceptable for a vigilante group to start taking the law into their own hands and that is the simple issue in this case because that is what happened.

'A large group of young people of a similar age to the boy also gathered in the vicinity of the deceased flat.

'They didn't take part in the subsequent events although their presence did increase the hostile atmosphere that existed at the time.

'Attempts were made by the individuals to cover and hide their features which the crown say was indicative of what they intended.

'The crown allege that the defendants as a group were armed and all of them save for McMulkin made efforts to hide their faces.

'The only sensible conclusion we suggest that we draw is that they indented to give the defendant a beating. That they intended to assault him.

'In interview Katia said that she and Sarah Watson went into the small vestibule outside the flat. She said that Sarah Watson had called out in a calm voice "Jimmy".
'The males remained outside the vestibule she said. Scott Campbell did open his door but he was too quick and managed to close it before the defendants could force their way in.

'Once Scott had closed the door there was an attack on it with weapons. It was struck. The glass was broke. There was banging and noise and it was so great that it was heard by neighbours.

'One neighbour was listening to a tennis match on TV but he could still hear the attack. He heard a female voice shouting "I'm going to f***ing get you" or "I'm going to f***ing kill you" - he wasn't quite sure.

'The crown say that the defendants were trying to force the door. They were a large group. They were armed. They were damaging the door and attacking it.

'Although you may have little sympathy for Scott Campbell, it must have been a frightening experience and he must have been fearful of what was going to happen if they gained entry.

'Whatever the sympathies are at that stage the defendants, we say, were all acting entirely unlawfully in trying to take the law into their own hands and act as a vigilante group.

'It is not acceptable for defendants to take the law into their own hands. It is apparent from the CCTV footage that whilst the deceased felt under attack he went onto the balcony with the intention to lower himself down.

'It is equally clear that he lost his grip in trying to climb down and he fell and died as a result of injuries he sustained in the fall.

'The inference that can be drawn is that Scott Campbell was in fear as a result of the defendants attempt to break into his flat. He must have known that he faced a beating at least.

'There was no other way out of the flat other than through the front door or by the balcony.

'Therefore it is our case that in trying to escape the unlawful conduct of the defendants he fell to his death.

'It was only after Sarah Watson had left the flats that she called the police about the conduct of the deceased.

'The crown say that this was a vigilante group seeking revenge, seeking to gain entry to the deceased flat to cause him harm. He attempted to escape as a result of that unlawful conduct and in doing so he fell to his death.'

Teen stabs to death alleged molester

A man who allegedly fondled a 15-year-old boy is dead after the youth stabbed him with an ice pick in St. Elizabeth on Sunday.

Dead is Everton Ramoney, 47, of Leeds in St. Elizabeth.

His body was found at a house on School Street in Black River.

It is reported that the teenager was at Mr. Ramoney's house when he allegedly touched the youth in an inappropriate manner.

The teenager used an ice pick to stab Mr. Ramoney several times.

He then wrapped the body in a tarpaulin.

I've no regrets.. I'd do it all again

A teenager who killed the neighbour who raped his mum spoke for the first time from prison last night and said: "I've no regrets."

But in an emotional phone call to the Sunday Mercury, Marc Bick said that he never meant to kill sex beast Derek Duffet.

"That man attacked my mum in our house," the 17 year-old said. "In some respects, he deserved what he got.

"But I didn't mean to kill him. I was just so angry and upset. I wasn't really thinking straight.

"I don't blame my mum for me being in prison because I love her. I'd do the same again if I had to."

Bick, from Newport, Shropshire, was 16 when he discovered that drug addict Duffet had attacked mum Yvonne, 48, after threatening her with a wrench.

Angry and confused, the teenager vowed revenge and confronted the brute a week after the December 20 attack.

When Duffet sneered "For f*** sake, it was only a bit of fun," Marc lashed out in fury with a cricket bat.

Duffet, 40, slumped to the floor where he banged his head - and died three days later.

His death was due to the fall, not the blow from the bat.

A-level student Bick, who got 10 GCSEs this summer and wants to eventually set up his own gardening business, was originally charged with murder.

But that was reduced to manslaughter, which he admitted at Stafford Crown Court earlier this month. He was jailed for three years.

Bick, currently in Stoke Heath Young Offenders' Institution in Market Drayton, Shropshire, added: "I don't regret doing something about the situation because he raped my mum.

"But I do regret that Duffet died because I honestly never meant to kill him.

"I was really worried about going to prison because I have never been in any kind of trouble before.

"But it's better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be really tough and I wouldn't be able to cope.

"Before all this happened things had been going really well.

"I was going out with a nice girl and I'd been going to college which I really enjoyed.

"I'm carrying on with my A-levels in here and I'm also doing gym. It's OK in here and I just have to get on with it, although Christmas is going to be weird without my family.

"I want to say thanks to everyone who has been on my side. I think 98 per cent of people would have done a similar thing if they had been in my situation."

Bick and Duffet had known each other well - they used to play chess together and go fishing at the nearby lake.

But 5ft 2ins mum Yvonne never suspected that her neighbour would subject her to such a horrific ordeal.

She told the Sunday Mercury: "Derek had popped round for some chicken. I would often give him bits of food because I felt sorry for him.

"I went into the outhouse to get some food out of the chest freezer and stood on a box to reach in. He followed me out there, held a wrench to my neck and then raped me.

"I couldn't scream because I didn't want my youngest son, Paul, to wake up and be scared. I didn't want to tell anyone. The children just thought I wasn't feeling very well."

Yvonne kept the attack from her eldest son, his sister Mikayla, now 16, and Paul, 11, believing that it would spoil their Christmas celebrations.

But Duffet started boasting about the way he had raped her, and Bick became suspicious after finding his mother crying.

Eventually, Yvonne told him what happened.

"Marc was so angry that he started sobbing," she said. "He was devastated but angry at the same time. He said he was going to get Derek - but I tried to stop him.

"He went round and Derek grabbed him by the shoulders. Then Marc hit him and, as he fell, he hit his head. He died three days later of his injuries.

"The doctors said if he hadn't been taking drink and drugs then he probably would have lived.

"Marc just wanted to hurt him, never to kill him.

"I really miss Marc and Paul misses him, too. He cried when Marc went to prison.

"But I'm glad Duffet is dead. He deserved it.

Alleged sex offender killed for 'honour'

THE victim of a so-called honour killing was under investigation for alleged sex offences it has been revealed after a murder trial.

Taxi boss Mohammed Shaheen was blasted to death by his brother-in-law at his business premises in Chorlton, Manchester.

Police believe the killing was motivated by anger over sex assaults on women dating back nine years 42-year-old Mr Shaheen is alleged to have carried out.

Police were investigating the sex allegations at the time of the killing but after murderer Khyber Khan was jailed for at least 30 years the enquiry has been closed.

Khyber, aged 28, travelled from his home in Pakistan to Manchester in September 2005 after it was alleged that Mr Shaheen had been behaving "alarmingly" and had made death threats to the parents of one alleged victim.

Khan was only in the country four days but managed to arm himself with a shotgun.

On the day of the murder he phoned Mr Shaheen's business, Olympic Taxis on Keppel Road, Chorlton asking for him.

When he eventually was connected to Mr Shaheen, a worker at the premises heard the soon-to-be victim say he "did not want to know" the would-be killer.

Shortly after that exchange Khan walked into the premises and without a word blasted Mr Shaheen in the chest with a single barrel shotgun in front of staff.

A Manchester court heard that police, paramedics and taxi drivers rushed to the scene to help the stricken victim who was taken to hospital but was found dead on arrival.

Four hours after the killing Khan's sister, Nasreen Khan, 26, drove him to Manchester airport and gave him money for a ticket to Lahore.

The mother-of-two, from Cornbrook Park Road, Old Trafford, was later arrested and charged with perverting the course of justice. She denied the charge but was found guilty and jailed for two years.

Her sister, Parveen Khan, faced the same charge but the jury were unable to reach a verdict and she was freed.

Through the investigation and trial the killer Khyber Khan insisted he was innocent. He claimed he had been falsely identified by witnesses of the shooting.

Manchester police knew the identity of the killer from the start of the investigation. Through international police contacts they were able to track Khan's movements as he embarked on a world tour to evade arrest. From Pakistan he travelled to Kabul in Afghanistan, then to Abu Dhabi before attempting to gain entry to Canada.

There immigration officers became suspicious and he was deported to the UK. Manchester detectives were waiting to arrest him when he got of a plane at Heathrow airport.

Trial judge Anthony Gee said: "Our civilised society cannot for one moment contemplate so-called honour killings nor anyone who takes the law into their own hands. Those who do so may expect no mercy."

He jailed Khan for life and ordered that he serve at least 30 years before he can be considered for release.

He commended the police officers who worked on this case for their thoroughness and sensitivity.

Detective Sergeant Sam Pickering who lead the investigation into the killing said: "This has been a long and complex investigation and I am pleased that Khan has been brought to justice.

"Mohammed Iqbal Shaheen leaves a wife and son who have been devastated by their loss and this incident is made even more tragic by the fact that the man responsible for her husband's death is her own brother.

Rape suspect gunned down

9-19-2007 Philippines

One of the suspects in the brutal rape-slay of a 13-year-old in Bago City, Negros Occidental, was shot dead on Monday, in what the police described as a "Sparrow-type of operation" of the New People's Army.

The victim identified as Ivan Calero, 37, was gunned down by two suspects armed with .45 and 9mm caliber pistols, and the incident was witnessed by his 6-year-old child, in Purok Helga, Brgy. Don Jorge Araneta, Bago City.

Calero died from four gunshot wounds in the head and chest, initial police investigations showed.

Calero, a trisikad driver, was among the three persons invited for questioning by the Bago police, in connection with the brutal rape-slay of Ma. Teresa Medrano in the barangay on June 20.

Police investigations also indicated that Calero, who was driving a trisikad, accompanied by his minor child, was on his way home, when the suspects flagged them down.

Without any provocation, the two unidentified armed men opened fire at Calero, but spared his daughter, police said.

The suspects did not even bother to cover their faces with bonnets or handkerchiefs to hide their identities when they shot Calero, in the presence also of other witnesses.

Responding Bago policemen recovered four empty shells of .9mm and .45 caliber pistols from the scene.

Supt. Alex Belonio, Bago police chief, yesterday said charges had not been filed against Calero, in connection with the rape-slay of Medrano, for lack of evidence.

The house of Calero is about 200 meters away from the creek where the decomposing body of Medrano placed in a sack was discovered by a rice farmer on June 20.

The two companions of Calero, identified as Jose Sedayon and Efren Fria, who were also invited for questioning, were later released by the Bago police after witnesses failed to identify them.

Police investigations showed that Medrano had four hack wounds in the nape and on the left and right side of her face, two fractured ribs and right lower jaw, hematoma in both knees and bite marks on her left breast, aside from signs of being molested.

PO1 Calixto Galido, Bago police investigator, said the killing of Calero was done in a professional manner.

The Bago police is looking into the possibility that the killing may be related to the killing of Medrano and was initiated, either by a "vigilante group", by insurgents, or persons who wanted to silence him.

Man bullied to his death, court hears

A man with severe learning difficulties was subjected to hours of violent torture before being forced to eat 70 paracetamol tablets and bullied off a viaduct where he fell to his death, a British court heard today.

Steven Hoskin was beaten, forced to wear a dog collar and "walked" around on a lead and forced to confess to being a paedophile before he was killed on July 6th last year.

Mr Hoskin, 39, who was illiterate and had the reading ability of a six-year-old, suffered hours of "terrifying torture" at the hands of Darren Stewart, Martin Pollard and three teenagers who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Mr Hoskin, from St Austell, Cornwall, had taken an IQ test three years before his death and came in the bottom 0.4% of the country.

Stewart, 30, Pollard, 21 and a 17-year-old girl, all from the St Austell area, deny murder. The three have pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and Stewart and Pollard have pleaded guilty to a charge of false imprisonment.

Two teenage boys, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, deny assault occasioning actual bodily harm and all three teenagers deny false imprisonment. Stewart also denies one charge of intimidating a witness.

At Truro Crown Court, Cornwall, prosecutor Sarah Munro QC said that Mr Hoskin's death "came at the end of an evening during which he was subjected to hours of humiliating, painful and terrifying torment, violence and abuse in which all five played a part."

"These five treated Steven Hoskin like a slave in his own flat," she said. "They literally treated him like a dog, forced to wear his own dog's collar and lead, they found it funny."

Ms Munro told the court that Mr Hoskin was forced to confess he was a paedophile and made to sit on the floor under graffiti that read "nonce" and "should be hung".

After the initial violent abuse had finished, the court heard that the two teenage boys and Pollard left the flat.

Stewart and the teenage girl then forced Mr Hoskin to eat the tablets, the court heard. Ms Munro said that when Pollard returned to the scene, and with Mr Hoskin clearly sick, the three then hatched a plan as to how he should die.

The court heard that at about midnight they took him on a 20-minute walk to the top of a viaduct.

Ms Munro said: "Steven Hoskin fell 35 metres, 100 feet, from a viaduct.

"He was forced and bullied into falling to his death.

"Add to that the fact that over the months his will, his ability to stand up to anyone, had been completely overridden by the treatment he had received.

"He was easy pickings for bullies, he was the perfect target."

Police suspect vigilantism in man's murder

4-25-2001 Canada:
Laval police are investigating whether four men took the law into their own hands on Tuesday night. A 48-year-old man died after being brutally beaten and stabbed. Police say they were called to the scene of a fight behind an apartment building at about eight o'clock.

They were told four men were beating another man with baseball bats.

"When we arrived on the scene, the four people were not there," says Sergeant André St-Jacques of Laval police. "But the victim was able to go into his apartment. When we arrived and we saw him, he was unconscious."

The man, Michel Latendresse, 48, died later in hospital, possibly from a stab wound. A 25-year-old man is in custody and police are still looking for the other three men.

Victim known to police
Sergeant St-Jacques says it could be a case of vigilantism.

Police received a complaint against the victim two days ago for sexual assault on a minor. "He was a supect in that case, and there's a possibility there's a relation with that sexual assualt and the murder," St-Jacques says.

Crown Prosecutor Pierre Teasdale says the men may face more severe charges later. "I know very partially what happened," says Teasdale.

"I know that someone died, and people have different implications, that's the reason why the accused ... is charged with assault. Armed assault," he says. Teasdale points out that based on the evidence police have to date those are the only charges which could have been laid.

Police are still searching for the other men they suspect took part in the attack.

Family ties

Laval police say Michel Richer has close ties to the family of the alleged sexual assault victim.

Eric Savard of Laval was arraigned just hours after Richer, on the same charge. He does not have any apparent connection to the alleged sexual assault victim.

Laval police are still looking for a fourth man by the name of Michel Chatillon. Two other men arrested in the case, Michel Richer and Eric Savard have been granted bail.

They have both been charged with assault with a weapon. The victim, Michel Latendresse, was beaten with baseball bats and died in hospital soon after.

Ex-wife is jailed for sex killing

A WOMAN was jailed for life yesterday after she lured her ex-husband into a kinky sex session and stabbed him to death.

Mum-of-two Denise Lawrence, 47, handcuffed Adrian Anson to his bed then plunged a kitchen knife through his heart.

Prosecutor Greg Taylor QC said: "This was not a crime of passion - it was an execution.

"She handcuffed him to special hoops in the bedroom wall and tied his feet. "Lawrence put a black mask on his head that he couldn't see through. Then they had sex."

Cardiff crown court heard Lawrence left him to die tied up and with the front door to his home in Roath, Cardiff, locked to prevent him getting out.

Mr Taylor said: "Anson was bleeding and tied up. She turns up the music so she can't hear him."

Lawrence from Cardiff, who denied murder, said she believed Anson, 37, was wrongly cleared of sex offences against two girls.
